In the early hours of August 9, 2024, near the settlement of Chornomorske in Crimea, Ukrainian special forces from the Defense Intelligence, known as the Group 13 unit, successfully launched a strike against russian naval assets. The operation resulted in the destruction of russian KS 701 Tunets high-speed boat, achieved through the deployment of the Magura V5 strike naval drone. In addition to the destroyed vessel, three other russian boats sustained damage, though their exact types are still under investigation.
This operation marks another instance of Ukraine’s strategic targeting of russian naval assets in the region. Notably, similar strikes were carried out in May 2024, when Ukrainian forces destroyed two KS 701 boats and damaged two others. The KS 701 vessels, used by russian forces in temporarily occupied Crimea, primarily serve for patrol and logistical operations.
