In August 2023, Colonel Oleh Babii led a mission deep into russian territory, covering over 600 kilometers to neutralize russian Tu-22M3 bombers

In August 2023, as part of an operation conducted by the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ukrainian scouts undertook a mission that required them to cover 600 kilometers to neutralize three russian Tu-22M3 bombers.

Colonel Oleh Babii, leading a reconnaissance group, embarked on a challenging journey across russian territory, covering a distance of over 600 kilometers. The objective was clear – to thwart russia’s air attacks of Ukrainian cities.

Venturing deep into the enemy’s rear, the scouts successfully accomplished their mission. They not only destroyed one russian Tu-22M3 bomber but also disabled two others. However, the victory came at a great cost, with the reconnaissance group suffering irreparable losses.

As the group made its way back to Ukrainian territory, it fell into an ambush and found itself in an unequal battle against russian occupiers, as reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. Tragically, on August 30, 2023, while covering the withdrawal of his fellow soldiers, Ukrainian Colonel Oleh Babii sustained mortal wounds and passed away.
