Desertion is becoming increasingly common within the armed formations of the Southern Military District of the russian Army. A staggering number of over 18 thousand russian military personnel have willingly abandoned their roles in the district’s combat units, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reports.
The largest portion of these desertions, approximately 12 thousand individuals, is attributed to the 8th Combined Arms Army of the russian Federation, which is actively involved in combat operations in the east of Ukraine. Around 10 thousand of these deserters were conscripted by Moscow through mobilization, with the remaining 2 thousand being contract soldiers.
