russian Occupiers Increase Use of North Korean Shells in Vovchansk Despite "Friendly Fire" Risks from Poor Quality

In particular, we are talking about ammunition for 152 mm artillery systems

A spokesman for the Kharkiv operational-tactical group Vitaliy Sarantsev stated that russian occupation forces have started using more North Korean-made shells in the city of Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast.

"These shells have been delivered since 2023. Of course, we do not know which batch it is, but russia has been actively using them in various areas since last year. These are shells for 152 mm artillery systems. North Korea uses almost the same weapons as russia. Accordingly, these shells are interchangeable," he told Suspilne Kharkiv.

According to Sarantsev, North Korean shells are of lower quality than Soviet ones.

"Depending on the batch, they have different amounts of gunpowder. These powders have different caloric content, which is why the shell often fails to reach the target and can fall on its own units. It is such a kind of friendly fire. There are shells that do not reach their target, and there are shells with a shot force that burst the gun barrel," he added.
