russia wants to have thermal imaging systems in its Black Sea fleet to protect against Ukrainian surface drones.
Currently, they are being developed by the company Laboratory PPSh, as reported by its CEO, Denis Oslomyenko, to russian propaganda media.

Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are using various modifications of surface drone kamikazes for attacks on russian ships, which have already inflicted significant damage to the russian Black Sea Fleet. And this is precisely the case where expensive weaponry is destroyed by means of attack that are tens of times cheaper.
Given that the attacks mostly occur at night, it is more difficult for the Russians to counter Ukrainian kamikaze drones. Oslomyenko also highlights this, noting the "problem of the lack of thermal imaging equipment among the fighters."
According to him, Laboratory PPSh, in cooperation with the Black Sea Fleet, plans to implement these capabilities: "We produce thermal imaging sights and sighting systems, which we are now adapting for the PKM (Kalashnikov Modernized Machine Gun), for the Kord — for all small arms currently used against unmanned boats."
He claims that such devices can detect targets at a distance of over 1 km. Furthermore, Oslomyenko believes that the watchmen on the deck should have thermal binoculars to "report the azimuth of the boats' movement to russian soldiers with automatic rifles" as they approach the target.
Earlier, Defense Express reported that russia demonstrated how they train to repel attacks by Ukrainian Magura V5 kamikaze surface boats in the Pacific Ocean.
Let us also remind you that Ukraine constantly improves its surface drones, particularly by testing various solutions to protect them from attacks. Recently, photos of the Magura V5 surface kamikaze boats with R-73 missiles appeared, and this is indeed a historic event in several aspects.
