The large landing ship Novocherkassk, commissioned in 1987, was fully destroyed by Ukrainian Defense Forces in December last year

russian propaganda channels on Telegram shared a photo from the Aviaforum site, reportedly showing the remains of the large landing ship Novocherkassk (Project 775)—specifically, part of its stern, which was raised from the Black Sea floor in the port of Feodosia, where it was destroyed.

To recall, Ukrainian Defense Forces first attempted to sink this landing ship at the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It was struck on March 24, 2022, while near a temporarily occupied repair facility. However, after that strike, russian forces managed to repair the Novocherkassk, as it had not sustained serious damage.

On the night of December 26, 2023, however, the Novocherkassk was ultimately destroyed by a precise strike from Ukraine's Defense Forces. It is believed that a batch of Shahed-type kamikaze drones was on board, as the strike on the ship triggered a powerful explosion.

Later, photos and satellite images emerged, showing that the damaged Novocherkassk had sustained such significant damage that it was clear it could not be repaired.

Media reports indicated that replacing the destroyed ship could cost russia around $85 million. Defense Express provided a detailed analysis suggesting this amount might be even higher, and speculated on the total cost for russia.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the sinking of the Novocherkassk effectively closed one of russia's logistical channels to Crimea.
