The Bundestag has approved a major procurement of RMMV HX trucks, expanding the Bundeswehr's transport fleet with vehicles proven in Ukraine

Germany is preparing a major expansion of its military logistics fleet with a new planned purchase of 610 RMMV HX tactical trucks for the Bundeswehr, a platform that has already proven its value in real combat conditions in Ukraine.

According to reporting from hartpunkt, the budget committee of the Bundestag has already approved the procurement project. The deal is estimated to be worth around €1 billion, with deliveries expected to begin later this year if schedules remain unchanged.

The order includes 34 HX2 trucks in a 6x6 configuration and 576 vehicles in an 8x8 configuration. These correspond in German service to the UTF 5-ton and UTF 15-ton categories, designed for different levels of payload and operational tasks.

The RMMV HX family is produced by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, with manufacturing based in Austria. Over the past several years, Germany has already acquired thousands of these platforms, steadily modernizing its logistics backbone as part of broader efforts to improve military readiness and mobility.

HX trucks have also been widely supplied to Ukraine, where they have been used extensively in frontline logistics roles, including as heavy transporters and recovery vehicles. Ukrainian operators have repeatedly praised the platform for its strong off-road mobility, durability, and reliability under harsh battlefield conditions.

Their performance in Ukraine has reinforced the broader reputation of the HX series as a robust military logistics solution capable of operating in difficult terrain, where conventional transport systems would struggle to maintain supply lines under combat pressure.

However, the reported price tag of nearly €1 billion for 610 vehicles marks a significant increase compared to earlier procurement rounds. In 2024, a similar order of 610 trucks reportedly cost around €312 million, suggesting either expanded configuration packages, additional support services, or a higher procurement ceiling rather than purely vehicle costs.

The HX platform is currently in service with a wide range of countries, including Ukraine, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, and Denmark. Denmark alone has recently committed to acquiring several hundred units and is reportedly considering expanding its fleet toward 1,000 vehicles, underscoring the growing global demand for standardized, high-mobility military logistics platforms.
