Belarus Responds to Ukraine's Call to Withdraw Troops from Border: "We Do Not Understand"

On Sunday, August 25, it became known that Belarus had moved its troops and equipment to the border with Ukraine under the pretext of exercises. Ukraine demanded that Belarus withdraw its army from the border areas. However, on Monday, August 26, Minsk claimed that it had not received any official requests

In response to a direct appeal from Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on its official website, urging the withdrawal of Belarusian troops from the Ukrainian border, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed they did not understand the request, according to a report by BelTA.

When asked about a response to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' demand for the withdrawal of Belarusian troops from the border, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anatoly Glaz replied, "Today, many are asking—what was this about? And why? We don't have answers to these questions. They should be directed to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

The spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs cynically added that his country is allegedly forced to carry out "tasks to ensure the security of Belarusian territory" due to "Ukrainian drones" and "constant provocations."

Glaz stated, "Officially, we have not received any such requests from the Ukrainian side in any form." He further commented that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement was posted online, where there's "a lot of everything."

Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence reports that Belarus has positioned its army and Wagner Group mercenaries near the Ukrainian border, leading Kyiv to demand their withdrawal. The deployment includes Special Operations Forces, weapons, and military equipment such as tanks, artillery, MLRS, air defense systems, and engineering vehicles.
