An aviation detachment of Canadian troops in the Middle East, which supported anti-terrorist operations and UN peacekeeping missions in Africa, is being redeployed to the UK to support Ukraine.
According to CBC Newsthe Canadian Department of National Defense called the redeployment of two C-130J transport aircraft and its ground support crew necessary in light of ongoing efforts to supply Ukraine with weapons and ammunition.

The Air Transport Detachment Headquarters was based in Kuwait for several years during Operation Impact.
“We have consolidated our C-130 tactical air force in Scotland to be able to provide such support to Ukraine in Europe and provide occasional support in the Middle East, as well as provide occasional support in Africa,” said Wayne Eyre, Commander of the Defense Staff of Canada.
Canada’s military transport aircraft – both C-130Js and large C-17s Globemasters – have been working overtime since Russia invaded Ukraine in February. They ferried humanitarian aid, military equipment and ammunition to points in Eastern Europe, from where they could be sent across the border into Ukraine.
