"We have once again provided Ukraine with a combined IRIS-T SLM and IRIS-T SLS fire system – an ultra-modern and proven medium- and short-range air defense system built directly by the German industry. Along with the recently delivered Patriot system, we are strengthening Ukraine's air defense in its protection against russia's brutal and illegal aggressive war," Pistorius noted.
According to SPIEGEL, another IRIS-T SLM surface-to-air missile system has arrived in Ukraine.
"The federal government is strengthening Ukrainian air defense. Ukraine now has four medium-range IRIS-T systems and one short-range IRIS-T system," the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Germany has promised Kyiv nine IRIS-T SLMs and eleven IRIS-T SLSs, manufactured by Diehl Defense.
However, journalists point out that Ukraine is not only short on air defense systems but also the ammunition for them. This is due to intensified air strikes on Ukraine, the manufacturer is now striving to meet Kyiv's demand for missiles for these systems.
As Defense Express reported earlier, Germany has also promised to deliver the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine as quickly as possible.
