Belarusian leader mandates arming of security forces and tightens control ahead of parliamentary elections

On the eve of the upcoming parliamentary elections, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, convened a comprehensive meeting with the leadership of national security agencies. During this gathering, he mandated the arming of law enforcement personnel with firearms and other deterrents to counter potential “extremist actions”.

Simultaneously, he directed the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KGB, and the Prosecutor’s Office to exercise heightened oversight of election preparations and remain prepared to quell any attempts at provocation by dissenting Belarusian citizens.

Furthermore, the Belarusian authorities have unequivocally rejected the involvement of international observers in the electoral process, disregarding the transparency crucial for democratic elections.

Given these developments, the National Resistance Center urges Belarusian citizens to abstain from participating in the upcoming vote. The excessive involvement of representatives of Belarusian law enforcement agencies may indicate intentions to create certain provocations aimed at further accusing the Ukrainian side of attempting to disrupt the electoral process.
