Ukraine has conducted its first closed tests of domestically developed remotely controlled buggies, with servicemen from the Defense Intelligence's Tymur Special Unit operating the vehicles during the trials.
The tests were conducted to assess how the Ukrainian-made ground vehicles perform against requirements relevant to frontline operations, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense reported on September 18.

The military personnel directly operated the buggies during the trials rather than simply observing their performance. They also provided immediate feedback to the developers, allowing technical issues and other shortcomings identified during testing to be addressed.
The Ministry of Defense did not disclose which models participated in the trials or provide their technical specifications. It said the vehicles were evaluated according to characteristics considered important for their use in combat conditions.
Following the tests, the developers began modifying their vehicles based on feedback from the servicemen. Additional Ukrainian remotely controlled buggy designs are expected to undergo testing at the next stage of the program.
The initiative is being implemented jointly by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense and Brave1, Ukrainian defense innovation cluster. According to the ministry, more than half of the remotely controlled buggy designs currently developed in Ukraine have already received grant support from Brave1.
Ukrainian forces already use foreign remotely controlled vehicles of this type. The current effort is aimed at developing a domestic market capable of supplying the military with reliable remotely controlled buggies.
Such ground platforms can perform tasks that would otherwise expose soldiers to unnecessary risks, including transporting cargo and carrying out other missions in areas where sending a human-operated vehicle could be dangerous.
