​Ukraine Allocates 50 Percent of State Budget to Defense, in Response to Mobilization in russia

Ukraine is not afraid of future challenges associated with a massive boost in manpower of russian invasion

The new budget of Ukraine for 2023 provides half of the money going into the defense sector, as announced by First Deputy Chair of the Ukrainian government Oleksandr Korniienko, Media Center Ukraine reports.

"The Verkhovna Rada launched the procedure for adopting the budget for the next year. Half of all next year’s expenses will fund defense, Ukraine’s Armed Forces, and other security services. Under these conditions, our reaction to the mobilization declared in russia is clear – we are not afraid, we are prepared to fight as we have been doing for half a year," Korniienko said.

Ukrainian edition of Ekonomichna Pravda covering the country’s economics provides some details: the total amount of funds going into Ukraine’s defense is estimated at more than 1.1 trillion in national currency, or almost USD 27 billion, of which roughly $13 billion will finance the operation, medical care and training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, $9.5 bln provide for the acquisition, modernization and repair of military equipment.

Defense Intelligence of Ukraine will receive 1.5 more funding in 2023 compared to the previous year, which the authors of the analysis link to the success shown by the servicemen of this branch of Defense Forces so far.

And despite allocating as much as 50% percent of the budget is an unprecedented case, in fact, this is what is already happening right now, said the representatives of the Ukrainian government. All the collected taxes go to defense because the funds provided by Ukraine’s international partners are not allowed for this purpose.

Speakers of the Verkhovna Rada, presenting the draft project, said it was important to approve it as soon as possible, since Ukraine is expecting further financial assistance from its allies and coordination is crucial for that, "so that they put financial support to Ukraine in their budgets plans for the next year".
