Germany is set to continue support for Ukraine with new weapons

Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht sees little further opportunity to send Ukraine weapons from the Bundeswehr stockpiles.

"The possibilities of the Bundeswehr are exhausted," Ms Lambrecht said, speaking on German public radio Deutschlandfunk. "We are exploring what other options there are." Accordingly, talks are now underway in the federal government about buying weapons for Ukraine.

However, if weapons are purchased from German companies for delivery to Ukraine, it is "not a route that goes through the Ministry of Defense, but rather a route that goes through the Ministry of Economic Affairs, because then we are talking about arms exports," she said.

Germany has sent 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger anti-aircraft defense systems to Ukraine, according to publicly available reports.

The Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank grenade launchers supplied by Germany have been used with great efficiency by Ukrainian forces in their combat against Russian attacks.

In addition, Berlin has announced the delivery of 2,700 anti-aircraft missiles, including Strela-3 rockets, from ex-GDR military stockpiles to Ukraine.
