The leaked contracts paint a picture of shared strategies, questionable practices and geopolitical implications for the defense industry

Cyber Resistance activists have recently released online documents, sparking a detailed investigation by Ukrainian journalists into the connections of the sanctioned russian company Planar Tech and its American subsidiary, Copper Mountain Technologies. The investigation revealed that Planar from Chelyabinsk landed on the sanctions list shortly after the start full-scale invasion due to its association with Yevgeny Prigozhin. Leaked contracts obtained by the Cyber Resistance group unveiled the link between Planar’s products and russian defense industry, providing Ukraine with crucial insights into UAVs like Orlan-10, Inokhodets, and EW systems like Svet-KU and Leer-3, and numerous military units utilizing Planar products.

Further scrutiny into Planar and Copper Mountain Technologies’ devices and components revealed striking similarities. Their products are virtually identical in appearance, characteristics, names and codes, with shared technical documentation. Through intermediary companies established by the American version of Planar, Copper Mountain Technologies has extended its influence into the U.S. defense sector. Notably, russian technologies are embedded in antennas used in American aircraft, and they have even ventured into space, contributing to NASA’s Moon rover's new fuel sensor testing.

While Planar faces U.S. sanctions due to its links with Putin’s military endeavors, its subsidiary, Copper Mountain Technologies, continues to secure contracts within the American defense industry and NASA.
