Recent evidence confirms that Ukraine’s UAVs are capable of carrying and deploying full-fledged aerial bombs weighing 250 kg. A newly published report highlights that an aviation regiment of the Armed Forces successfully used such munitions in strikes on targets in russia’s Bryansk region.

A picture accompanying the report shows the FAB-250M-54 high-explosive aerial bomb next to the 120 mm mortar shell, illustrating the scale of these weapons. While the specific UAV model used remains undisclosed, it is no longer a surprise to russian forces that Ukraine has been integrating full-size FAB bombs into drone warfare.

This development is not entirely new. Back in April 2024, russian sources revealed images of modified Skyranger Swift, originally a light aircraft, converted into UAV capable of carrying similar bombs. That UAV was reportedly lost due to technical failure or russian electronic warfare countermeasures.

Unlike kamikaze drones, these UAVs are designed for multiple sorties. After dropping their payload, they return to base for rearmament and redeployment. Some UAVs have even been seen bearing markings indicating multiple successful strikes.

Targeting precision is achieved through an optical sighting system. While previous versions of these UAVs were armed with the FAB-100 bombs, the deployment of the FAB-250 bombs signals either the introduction of a more capable aircraft or an upgrade in the Skyranger Swift UAV’s payload capacity. This marks another step in Ukraine’s ongoing adaptation of drone warfare to deliver heavier and more effective aerial strikes.
