There is a chance to see the Italian M109L 155-mm self-propelled guns in battles against the russian army

Recently, a photo of an Italian M109L self-propelled artillery gun with a trident appeared on the Internet. It was allegedly on its way to fight against the russians in Ukraine. However, it turned out that in fact the trident in the colors of the Ukrainian flag turned out to be the tactical insignia of the 52nd Torino Artillery Regiment of the Italian Armed Forces.

In particular, this was confirmed by La Repubblica: indeed, the trident does not mean that this self-propelled gun is on the way to Ukraine. However, it also does not cancel the fact that Italy could have sent its M109Ls to Ukraine.

So, according to information from the article by La Repubblica, Italy handed over several dozen of its 155-mm self-propelled guns to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is claimed that they were delivered to Ukraine after passing inspection.

Defense Express notes that Italy does have the opportunity to allocate several dozen of its M109L’s to the Ukraine, because according to open sources as of 2022 Italy had about 300 of these self-propelled guns in storage.

It is noted that these self-propelled guns are supplied according to the latest defense aid package approved by the government of Mario Draghi.

Separately, the publication notes that complex operations for the transfer of weapons and ammunition across Europe are carried out under conditions of total secrecy, therefore, we can "officially" learn about the supply of Italian self-propelled guns a little later. In particular, based on the results of their work against the russian army.
