French and Dutch fighter jets enhance Ukraine’s aerial defense

Ukraine has officially received its first batch of French Mirage 2000 fighters and F-16 jets from the Netherlands. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov confirmed the arrival of these long-awaited reinforcements on February 6, emphasizing their critical role in protecting Ukrainian skies and countering russian aggression.

“Ukrainian sky is becoming more secure! These modern combat aircraft are already in Ukraine and will soon begin carrying out combat missions,” Rustem Umerov stated. He expressed gratitude to France for its strategic support, highlighting the Mirage 2000 aircraft as a valuable addition to Ukraine’s air defense. Similarly, he acknowledged the Netherlands’ contribution, calling it another step toward victory.

The addition of these advanced fighters underscores Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize its air force with Western aircraft. As Defense Express reported, Ukraine was preparing to bolster its air defense capabilities with the arrival of its first three French Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets. According to Avions Legendaires, the aircraft was set to be delivered by January 20, 2025. However, there were unconfirmed reports that these jets had already been in Ukraine, being used for training purposes.
