Romania's air defenses have received an unexpected boost in the form of the US M-LIDS anti-drone system, which has been deployed as part of the US 101st Airborne Division, units of which are currently deployed in the country.
According to the US Embassy in Romania, the first firings of this system took place a week ago in the Capu Midia Training Range.

M-LIDS (Mobile-Low Integrated Defeat System) is the newest serial anti-drone system in the US Army. This system will include a number of various means, which should ensure successful countermeasures against enemy UAVs, in particular:
- AN/TPQ-50 radar,
- thermal imaging sensors,
- means of direction finding,
- means of electronic warfare,
- 30 mm XM914automatic cannon.
So far, M-LIDS have only been spotted outside the US in Kuwait. Currently, it is known about the Pentagon's primary plans to order a total of only 45 such systems, which are supposed to strengthen five divisions.
The appearance of M-LIDS in Romania is quite expected, because this NATO country has already repeatedly been hit by russian Shahed-type kamikaze drones, with which the russians terrorize Ukrainians almost every night.
We will remind that late in the evening on March 28, 5 km from the city of Braila with a population of 200,000, a russian Shahed-136 exploded. It is significant that on that day, during the russian attack on Ukraine, not a single Shahed was launched in the direction of the Odesa region – so in that case it could be a targeted russian provocation against a NATO member state.
