Ukrainian intelligence says the Polyus Research Institute plays a critical role in developing laser and optoelectronic systems for russia's modern weapons

Ukraine's Defense Intelligence has released a detailed profile of russia's Polyus Research Institute, identifying it as a key developer of technologies used in russian missiles, drones, aircraft, armored vehicles, and other advanced weapons systems. The agency described the institute as a legitimate military target due to its direct contribution to russia's defense industry.

According to the Defense Intelligence, the Polyus Research Institute M.F. Stelmakh operates as a joint-stock company within the orbit of russia's state defense conglomerate Rostec. The institute specializes in laser and optoelectronic technologies that are integrated into a broad range of modern russian military equipment, making it a critical part of the country's defense production chain.

The intelligence agency said the institute's products support precision-guided weapons, unmanned aerial systems, military aviation, artillery, and armored vehicles. Such technologies are considered essential for improving target acquisition, guidance, and battlefield effectiveness across multiple branches of russian forces.

As part of the disclosure, the Defense Intelligence also published personal information identifying the institute's director, Yevgeny Kuznetsov, including his contact details. Ukrainian intelligence stated that Yevgeny Kuznetsov oversees an enterprise employing more than 2,000 people and argued that the organization's leadership and workforce bear responsibility for supporting russia's war effort.

Beyond identifying the institute's management, the Defense Intelligence claimed it possesses extensive personal data on every employee working at the Polyus Research Institute. The agency did not disclose the full dataset but emphasized that it has comprehensive information on the institute's personnel.
