Soldiers of 109th Mountain Assault Infantry Battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade shot down a russian Merlin-VR UAV

The downing of russian reconnaissance drone was reported on the brigade's Facebook page.

"The pilots of the 109th Mountain Assault Battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade 'Edelweiss' for the first time in the history of our brigade shot down an enemy Merlin-VR drone using an FPV drone. This achievement proves the professionalism and skill of our guys, who leave the enemy no chance," the statement reads.

Merlin-VR is a russian hybrid experimental reconnaissance drone that russians call a "technological breakthrough" because of its alleged silence, improved optics, and range.

The developer claims that the device has a hybrid engine, which gives "low acoustic visibility". But the drone that was shot down by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in early June 2022 no hybrid technology was found in the drone, only a conventional engine. The vehicle was also equipped with French-made Lynred (Ulis) PICO1024 thermal imaging matrices and an ordinary plastic bottle instead of a fuel tank, probably to make production cheaper.

Earlier Defense Express reported about countermeasures that russians had offered to Ukrainian anti-aircraft FPV drones.
