The coordinated strike hit both an oil refinery and an ammunition depot, dealing a fresh blow to Moscow's logistics network

In the night of October 23, 2025, Ukrainian forces carried out a coordinated strike against two major russian military-linked targets – the Ryazan Oil Refinery and an ammunition depot near the town of Valuyki in Belgorod region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the operation, reporting explosions and large fires at both sites.

According to official information, Ukrainian forces hit the Ryazan Oil Refinery, a strategic facility used to supply fuel to the russian military. The attack caused multiple explosions followed by a massive blaze that spread across the refinery's territory. Satellite images and local eyewitnesses later confirmed heavy smoke and flames visible from kilometers away.

The Ryazan refinery, operated by russia's state-owned energy giant Rosneft, is one of the largest industrial fuel complexes in central russia, processing over 17 million tons of crude oil annually. Beyond its civilian role, the facility has been instrumental in providing diesel and aviation fuel for russian forces, including logistics and frontline operations.

By striking such a target, Ukraine sought to undermine a crucial element of russia's military supply chain. Disabling even part of the refinery's production capacity could disrupt fuel deliveries to the russian military units and complicate logistics that sustain operations across multiple fronts.

Ukraine's strategy increasingly focuses on hitting not only weapons depots but also the industrial and energy systems that enable russia's war effort.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian strike drones targeted an enemy ammunition depot near Valuyki in Belgorod region. According to preliminary information, the strike destroyed the site, triggering a series of secondary explosions as stored ammunition detonated. The depot was reportedly used to supply russian artillery units operating near the Ukrainian border.

The dual operation underscores Ukraine’s growing ability to conduct precision strikes deep inside russian territory, targeting key logistical nodes far from the front line. These strikes serve both an operational and symbolic purpose, demonstrating that russian infrastructure supporting the war is no longer secure, even hundreds of kilometers from the battlefield.
