It should be noted that the Ukrainian Air Forces have been quite successful in using this type of aircraft bombs. These bombs allow hitting target without entering russians` air defense zone.
The JDAM is a guidance kit that converts unguided bombs into all-weather precision-guided munitions. JDAM-equipped bombs are guided by an integrated inertial guidance system coupled to GPS receiver, giving them a published range of up to 28 kilometrs.
After detachment from the carrier aircraft, the JDAM autonomously follows the target coordinates. The coordinates can be loaded into aircraft before takeoff, changed by crew during the flight before launch, or entered via a data link from onboard targeting equipment. The bomb's flight paths can be programmed so that target can be hit at desired angle.
Ukraine received the ER (Extended Range) version, which has a range of up to 72,4 kilometers. Bombs were integrated into MiG-29 fighter aircraft.
Earlier Defense Express reported that Ukraine had downed 3 Su-34 fighter-bombers in a day as well as russia had lost 11 such aircraft in February.
