Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of preemptive strikes on key russian military airbases and logistics centers ahead of a planned large-scale enemy missile attack. The strikes were aimed at disrupting the russian Air Force's ability to launch long-range assaults on Ukrainian territory.
According to the General Staff, in the early hours of June 6, a precision strike was launched against the Engels airbase in russia's Saratov region. This base is a known hub for russia's strategic aviation and has previously hosted long-range bombers implicated in missile attacks on Ukraine. Following a prior operation by Security Service of Ukraine, this strike targeted aircraft concentrations and key fuel infrastructure.

Satellite data and local reports confirmed extensive damage at the Engels airfield, including multiple direct hits on fuel storage tanks. The resulting fires led to a massive blaze and dense smoke plumes that emergency services were unable to contain. Dozens of explosions were recorded near the strike zone, and assessments of further damage are ongoing.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces also struck the Dyagilevo air base in russia's Ryazan region. This installation serves as a launch point for strategic bombers and hosts critical aerial refueling and escort fighter jets used in long-range missile missions. The attack caused at least one confirmed fire in the vicinity of the target area, and russian air defenses were reported to be active during the strike.
In addition to the air bases, Ukrainian forces targeted several other high-value enemy positions across russia and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Notably, a logistics hub supporting the russian 30th Motor Rifle Regiment of the 72nd Motor Rifle Division was hit near the settlement of Kulbaki in Kursk region. The extent of damage there is still being assessed.
The operation involved units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, operating jointly with other components of Ukrainian forces. This level of inter-agency coordination marks a significant evolution in Ukraine's deep-strike capabilities and long-range warfare strategy.
Ukrainian officials have emphasized that such precision attacks will continue as long as russia's armed aggression persists. By targeting the logistical and operational backbone of russia's military machine, Ukraine aims to degrade the enemy's ability to project force and threaten civilian lives with missile terror.
