The command of the Philippine Navy has announced its intention to purchase two additional corvette or frigate-class ships to strengthen its anti-submarine defense.
This statement was made against the backdrop of an incident that occurred a few days ago: russian diesel-electric submarine of Project 636.6 Ufa, which is making its way to Vladivostok, unlawfully entered the waters within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone. This is stated in the publication by Naval News.

According to the authors of the publication, the Philippine Navy currently has only two ships with anti-submarine warfare capabilities. These are the BRP Jose Rizal and BRP Antonio Luna missile frigates, which were purchased from South Korea.
It is known that South Korea is currently fulfilling a contract to build six more patrol ships for the Philippine Navy. Against this background, we can only imagine how seriously the Philippine Navy's leadership perceives the potential threat from russian submarines in the region.
At the same time, the Philippines will also need additional corvettes or frigates to defend itself against China. Its ships constantly conduct dangerous maneuvers in the Philippine waters.
As Defense Express, we would like to emphasize that this news should be taken into account from several perspectives.
First and foremost, the russian federation is an urgent threat to the countries of the Pacific region, and appropriate arms purchases are being made to counter this threat.
It is also interesting that South Korea has a separate vector of arms exports. It involves building ships for export, currently for the Philippines, with which Seoul has a long-term defense cooperation.
At the moment, there is no clear indication that the Philippines will purchase new corvettes or frigates from South Korea, but the fact that Seoul intends to expand its ship exports is a safe bet.
As Defense Express reported India had received its seventh project 11356 frigate from russia.
