russian forces in Kursk region have been observed repurposing the MT-LB multi-purpose light armored transporter. The MT-LB vehicle has undergone various modifications over the course of the war, with its latest iteration being equipped with the 9K55 Grad-1 multiple launch rocket system.
Military-political analyst Aleksandr Kovalenko highlighted this adaptation, noting the increasingly desperate measures taken by russian forces due to a dwindling supply of specialized military equipment.

Aleksandr Kovalenko emphasized that the MT-LB has been used as a substitute for a wide range of military assets, including armored vehicles, artillery, rocket artillery and even air defense systems. He criticized these modifications as “monstrosities” born out of necessity rather than innovation, a reflection of the severe equipment shortages facing the russian military.
“The MT-LB vehicles, known for their excellent mobility and versatility, are becoming critically scarce. With MLRS units running out, it seems only a matter of time before even the 9K55 launchers are mounted on makeshift platforms, further underscoring the dire state of the so-called second army in the world,” Aleksandr Kovalenko stated.
