Ukrainian drones struck the Afipsky Oil Refinery, part of a broader strategy to degrade russia's capacity to sustain its war machine

On the night of August 7, operators of the 14th Separate UAV Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with other units, successfully struck several enemy targets, including the Afipsky Oil Refinery located in russia's Krasnodar Krai.

The Afipsky refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in southern russia and plays a crucial role in supplying fuel to russian military equipment. With an annual processing capacity of 6.25 million tons, it accounts for approximately 2.1% of russia's total oil refining output. Earlier in 2025, the facility had completed a major modernization of its technological equipment.

The strike triggered a fire at the plant's gas and gas condensate processing unit, a vital part of its operational chain. This suggests that the attack reached its intended target and inflicted tangible damage on a site essential to the russian war effort.

The refinery's modernization, finalized this year, was intended to boost efficiency and production. Its disruption means not only material losses but also a setback in russia's investment into sustaining its military logistics infrastructure.

This strike is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting facilities involved in fueling the russian army. Ukrainian unmanned systems have been systematically degrading enemy logistics, fuel depots, and industrial sites that support russia's military operations.

By conducting precise and consistent attacks deep in enemy territory, Ukraine is effectively weakening russian frontline capabilities while forcing its command to divert resources to protect infrastructure far from the battlefield.

As Defense Express previously reported, in a successful night operation, operators from the Nemesis 412th Separate Regiment of the Unmanned Systems Forces dealt a powerful blow to russian forces on one of the key front lines. Using strike UAVs, they targeted and destroyed a range of enemy assets, including armored vehicles, artillery, and surveillance equipment.
