Among other things, the US military aid package will include artillery shells as well as GMLRS rockets to HIMARS. This was announced by Jake Sullivan, US President's National Security Adviser, during a briefing.
“Today, on behalf of President Biden, I am announcing a package of emergency security assistance with weapons and equipment worth $300 million to meet some of Ukraine’s most critical needs,” Sullivan said.

He added that the funds for this security assistance became available through “unforeseen savings” in contracts already signed by the Pentagon for replacing the weapons supplied to Ukraine, ensuring that the package would not impact American security.
"This package that we are announcing contains a large number of artillery shells, GLMRS shells for HIMARS systems. This is the help that Ukraine desperately needs in order to maintain its defense against russian attacks," the adviser of the US President emphasized.
The announcement of American military aid to Ukraine will be the first such step since December 2023. It will take place against the background of how the allocation of additional funds to Kyiv is still being blocked by Republicans in the US Congress.
At the same time, the White House appealed to the US Congress to pass a bill on allocating funding to support Ukraine as soon as possible. Sullivan repeated the words of US President Joe Biden that "time is running out" and Ukraine needs help right now.
It was previously reported that the US is preparing to hand over a batch of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in a new aid package that will be announced on March 12.
According to one of the officials, the package will include several Anti-Personnel/Anti-Materiel, or APAM missiles, an older version of the long-range ATACMS.
It is a long-range version of the ATACMS system that can travel 100 miles (160 km) and carry warheads containing hundreds of cluster bombs.
