After Ukrainian drones successfully struck military targets in the Leningrad region, the russian authorities began installing S-300 air defense systems around St. Petersburg, as reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.
According to the telegram channel's report, residents have noticed S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems in the region.

"S-300s are being deployed around Peter. So, guys, brace yourselves for the worse," the message stated.
As reported by Defense Express, on January 18, Ukrainian drones attacked the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, and on the night of January 20 to 21, the Novatek plant and gas terminal near the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad Oblast, were targeted. These were the first strikes on the Leningrad region since the start of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to ISW, a russian insider source claimed on January 21 that russian air defense coverage over Leningrad Oblast is poor, indicating that russian air defenses in Leningrad Oblast are likely not positioned to defend against strikes from the south.
