russia is willing to make only one deal—Ukraine’s complete surrender along with that of the entire West. We, on the other hand, are prepared for a different agreement—an honest and just peace on terms acceptable to Ukraine and the free world, but not to the war criminal putin, emphasized Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Head of the Kyiv Security Forum, in an interview with BBC Radio.

Responding to a question about his assessment of the agreement between Ukraine and the United States, he stressed: "It is extremely important that the Americans have reconsidered their decision and that military support for Ukraine, along with intelligence sharing, has been restored. This is the most crucial issue for the Ukrainian military."

"It is good that we have returned to square one in U.S.-Ukrainian relations. The bad news is that one key issue remains—whether russia is willing to agree to any ceasefire. Frankly speaking, I have serious doubts. The war criminal putin has made it very clear that he is not prepared to accept any temporary ceasefire agreements. He is only willing to accept Ukraine’s complete surrender and call it a peace deal," he emphasized.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the ball is now in russia’s court: "But the ball has always been in russia’s court—ever since the war began in 2014."

On March 11, 2025, a U.S. delegation, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, met with Ukrainian officials, including Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov / Photo credit: Andriy Yermak / Telegram

Therefore, he argued, "it is necessary to acquire the right set of tools and means to pressure putin: There is no other solution but to provide Ukraine with more aid, more weapons, stronger sanctions, and the swiftest possible isolation of putin. Additionally, there must be an effort to pressure China. After all, how can China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, refuse to support a ceasefire agreement?"

"The United States has returned to the right path—for now. putin wants to humiliate Trump, outmaneuver him, and, together with China, undermine the U.S., the UN, and NATO. This is a joint strategy by russia, north korea, and China. And when President Trump realizes this, there will be no other option but to firmly support Ukraine and exert maximum pressure on Putin," Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized.
