Sunday early morning was not peaceful and quiet for Ukrainians – russia attacked Ukrainian cities with cruise missiles launched from strategic heavy bomber aircraft. Ports and grain storage facilities, South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant in Mykolaiv Region as well as some object of civil infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv were targeted by russia's missiles. Russia’s strike of Kyiv has been the first attack in over a month on the city

In southern Ukraine, the Ukrainian air defense units have repulsed an enemy attack from the sea, destroying two Russian cruise missiles on Sunday, June, 5.

The relevant statement was made by the South Operational Command on Facebook.

“The enemy continues to inflict fire damage and put psychological pressure on civilians and defenders in southern Ukraine. In particular, last night the enemy fired missiles at southern Ukraine from the sea. Two cruise missiles were shot down by our units over the sea when approaching Mykolaiv Region,” the report states.

Russian invaders again launched massive missile strikes on Mykolaiv Region, using aviation. The enemy fired air-based cruise missiles from the Black Sea and the territory of Russia at Mykolaiv Region’s coast, ports and grain storage facilities.

“Such daring actions show the real intentions of the terrorist state. The pseudo care for humanitarian corridors and the unblocking of ports is just a reason to gain access to Ukraine’s maritime infrastructure,” the South Operational Command stressed.

It should be noted that Ukraine's state-run nuclear power operator Energoatom said a Russian cruise missile few "critically low" on Sunday morning over South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant. The NPP is situated also in Mykolaiv Region.

“Russia committed another act of nuclear terrorism — at 5:30 a.m. a Russian cruise missile, similar to the 'Caliber' missile, flew critically low over the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant,” Energoatom said.

“Probably, this missile was fired in the direction of Kyiv, where explosions were heard this morning.”

Energoatom said that Russian forces “still do not understand that even the smallest fragment of a missile that can hit a working power unit can cause a nuclear catastrophe and radiation leak.”

Several explosions have taken place early on Sunday in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv too. Two of Kyiv’s eastern districts were rocked by explosions in an attack that targeted railway infrastructure.

“Several explosions in Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital,” city’s mayor Klitschko wrote on Telegram. “Services are already working on site.” There were reports of smoke in the city after the explosions. Air raid sirens had gone off earlier across much of Ukraine, including in the Kyiv region.

According to preliminary data, published by the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the russians launched missiles from Tu-95 aircraft in the Caspian Sea area.

"This morning, June 5, the enemy launched several missiles towards Kyiv. At about 06:00, the service members of the anti-aircraft missile unit of the Air Command ‘Center’ detected and fired on them. One cruise missile was destroyed," the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

As the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine states on its official page on on Facebook, the russians have fired five Kh-22 cruise missiles at the city of Kyiv. One of them was shot down by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense units, and the rest hit infrastructure facilities in the northern part of Kyiv.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak called on the west to impose more sanctions on Russia to punish it for the strikes and to supply more weapons to Ukraine.

After all the facts it seems odd, to put it mildly, that Joe Biden is happy to supply Ukraine with advanced rockets as long as it does not fire them at Russia. Vladimir Putin can aim missiles at Ukrainians from across the border whenever he wants – but Ukraine’s troops can’t shoot back at their tormentors.

Strange, too, that the UN is seeking Russia’s agreement for convoys to escort grain from Odesa and other Ukrainian ports. It’s Putin who is preventing 22 million tonnes of grain reaching the Middle East and Africa, where millions face famine.

Ukraine’s partners should not ask permission of russia to send weaponry to Ukraine as it is terrorist state. It also could be helpful for the World to send a multinational force to smash russia’s illegal blockade of Ukrainian ports.
