Researchers Estimate Remaining T-80 MBTs in russian Storage Could Sustain the Army Until 2026
Two OSINT researchers, Covert Cabal and HighMarsed, have reported a sharp decline in the number of operational T-80 main battle tanks stored at russian bases. The count has dropped from 1,200 to just 300 units classified as being in good condition.
According to the experts, at this rate, russia’s stock of the T-80 tanks at storage bases could be depleted by mid-2026. However, this doesn’t mean the tanks will vanish from the battlefield immediately; their deployment will simply become less frequent. Additionally, russia’s military industry has ramped up efforts to repair and modernize older T-80 models into upgraded T-80BVM variant. As a result, the full impact of dwindling reserves may only become apparent a few months after the supply is exhausted.
