85kg one-way attack drone with 15-20kg warhead enters service as Polish Army scales from 10 to 20 drone units while General Staff accidentally called it LUCAS copy

Polish Armed Forces now officially have their own Shahed copy created within PLargonia framework, drone received name Hornet. Strike version already currently has flight range up to 400 kilometers, more advanced 1,000 kilometer variant is also planned to strike Moscow from Polish territory.

Such UAV appearance fits trend where Polish army is getting more unmanned system units, currently there are already 10, and within several months number should grow to 20. Polish portal Defence24 reports this.

It is noted Polish Hornet is made in two variants. First is target drone designated Hornet PL-AT-1, second variant is strike Hornet PL-OWA (One Way Attack), with 15-20 kilogram warhead.

In both variants unmanned system is equipped with 342i B4 TS engine with 32 horsepower, enabling speeds up to 185 km/h. Drone takeoff mass is 85 kilograms, fuselage length 2.6 meters, wingspan 2.2 meters.

Mobile ground launcher is used for launch. Separately interesting is all intellectual rights under PLargonia project belong to Polish Defense Ministry, with developments under this project planned for use in designing other advanced unmanned systems for Polish army.

At the same time, existing unmanned system units in Polish Armed Forces are described by Defence24 authors specifically as laboratories. In other words, rather research-character units meant to develop own drone war style and methodology for Polish armed forces.

In this story Defense Express wants to draw attention to following. Poles themselves essentially say they are still only developing solutions for how they will conduct their drone war if russia starts large war in Europe.

At the same time, judging by everything, Polish military-political leadership made strong-willed decision to lock all advanced unmanned system projects specifically on national Defense Ministry and subordinate research institutions.

For example, in September 2024 Polish defense company WB GROUP showed long-range kamikaze Warmate 50 drone project, whose range would also suffice for striking Moscow. However currently data on this project implementation is absent.

Separately interesting is that in May 2026 Polish General Staff suddenly forgot own Shahed copy name, somehow calling it LUCAS copy from U.S. Which may specifically indicate that for PLargonia project implementation, Polish side could have engaged American colleagues' assistance.
