The Defense Ministry of Ukraine provided detailed answers to the Romanian Ministry of Defense regarding the incident with the naval drone that exploded in the port of Constanta on June 5. As the Romanian side notes, it received answers to 14 questions that fully reveal the course of events.

In particular, on June 4, the day before the incident, in the afternoon, the Ukrainian Defense Forces lost contact with four Sargan-3000 USVs, which at that time were near the occupied Sevastopol, 250 km from the border with Romania and were heading towards the eastern part of the Black Sea.
"From that moment on, Ukrainian forces lost control of the four drones' route and were unable to reestablish contact," the Romanian Defense Ministry said in its statement.
At 09:54 in the morning on June 5, the Ukrainian Navy informed the Romanian Armed Forces of the danger, warned of the self-destruction function and the time when it was supposed to occur. At the same time, the Ukrainian side could not cancel this function due to the lack of communication with the drones.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry also noted that this incident is an isolated case and, most likely, is a consequence of the action of russian electronic warfare equipment.
In response, the Romanian Defense Ministry expressed gratitude and asked the Ukrainian side to open a permanent technical communication channel between the countries' navies to exchange information on such risks. The Romanian side also asked to program the drones to self-destruct at a safe distance from the Romanian coast, if for any reason they reach this area.
It is also worth noting that the naval drone in the port of Constanta was found by the Romanians at 06:20 on June 5, 2026. Confirmation that it was a Ukrainian Sargan-3000 came 3.5 hours later, probably in response to a request from the Romanian side. The drone detonation occurred half an hour after the warning, which allowed the evacuation of personnel and the avoidance of casualties.
The coast guard also recorded and received reports of three other powerful explosions. At approximately 11:00 near Constanta and at approximately 13:00 about two explosions in the open sea.
As Defense Express reported previously, the Ukraine's USV that lost control had entered the port of Constanta, traveling a difficult route for 6.5 km through its internal waters.
