Ukrainian forces carried out a large-scale overnight strike against russian maritime assets in the Sea of Azov on July 11, targeting vessels that support Moscow's military logistics and energy exports. The operation was part of Ukraine's ongoing campaign to reduce russia's military and economic capabilities.
According to the General Staff, the attack damaged 21 russian oil tankers, marking one of the largest reported strikes against the country's maritime fleet since the start of the full-scale invasion. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Ukraine stated that the targeted tankers were involved in transporting crude oil and petroleum products, helping russia circumvent international sanctions. These shipments generate significant revenue that Moscow uses to finance its war against Ukraine, making the vessels a strategic target despite their civilian appearance.
In addition to the tankers, Ukrainian forces struck four tugboats, two cargo ships, and one dredger operating in the Sea of Azov. Officials said these vessels played an important role in sustaining russian military logistics, transporting cargo, and supporting port infrastructure used by russian forces.
As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian intelligence said its forces successfully hit the Ilsky Oil Refinery during a coordinated overnight deep-strike operation, targeting a major fuel supplier for russian troops.
