russian forces have begun using a specialized KRSN warhead designed to strike energy infrastructure. The warhead is mounted on jet-powered attack drones

russian forces are constantly looking for new ways to increase the damage caused by drone strikes against Ukraine. They have now begun deploying a new warhead on their jet-powered attack UAVs, specifically designed to destroy high-voltage power line pylons and steel bridge structures.

The warhead is designated KRSN (a russian acronym for a cumulative-cutting special payload). Defense Express has obtained photographic evidence confirming that this warhead is being carried by a russian Geran-4 drone.

Unlike conventional warheads, which detonate upon direct impact, the KRSN raises questions about how its detonation is triggered. One possible explanation is the use of contact sensors.

Recent footage showing Geran drones equipped with protruding wire-like antennas may support this theory. These could be contact sensors used to trigger the new warhead designed for strikes against energy infrastructure.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to the President of Ukraine known as Flash, previously reported the use of the KRSN. According to him, the cumulative cutting special payload consists of a 40 kg warhead and four striking elements.

It is currently unknown how many russian jet-powered drones are equipped with the KRSN compared to the overall number of drones deployed. Nevertheless, they pose a serious threat, particularly given the existing challenges involved in intercepting jet-powered UAVs.

Ukraine is currently actively deploying new solutions to counter russian jet-powered drones. In addition to their high speed, these drones pose a challenge because they fly at high altitudes, putting them beyond the reach of some air defense systems, including anti-aircraft guns and certain surface-to-air missile systems.

At the same time, new countermeasures are emerging, including interceptor drones with enhanced capabilities. These systems are already being used by Ukrainian forces and are being procured for further deliveries.

From the Defense Express side, we urge readers to join a fundraiser for a solution that is already proving effective: the One United Fundraiser, organized by the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation to support interceptor drones.
