By 2030, Rheinmetall aims to reach a production capacity of 1.5 million artillery rounds per year. This is not limited to supplies to Ukraine

Germany's Rheinmetall has received an order for 155-mm artillery ammunition from an unnamed buyer. The exact quantity has not been disclosed, but it is reportedly in the five figures—ranging from around 10,000 to several tens of thousands of shells.

According to the company's announcement, the contract was signed in the third quarter of 2026, and its value is estimated to be in the low hundreds of millions of euros. This means the amount is in the range of €100 million to several hundred million.

From Defense Express we would like to note that in recent years, the German conglomerate has significantly expanded its ammunition production capacity. The russia-Ukraine war played a major role in this.

The effort included expanding existing capabilities, acquiring other companies, and constructing new plants. Examples include the new shell production facility in Unterluess and work on establishing new gunpowder production facilities in Bulgaria.

Work is also underway to establish a shell manufacturing plant in Ukraine. In this way, Rheinmetall is seeking to position itself as one of the world's leading manufacturers of artillery ammunition.
