Turkish defense company Baykar continues to accelerate testing of its next-generation unmanned systems. Following a series of successful trials involving its Kizilelma unmanned fighter powered by Ukrainian engines, the company has now released new footage of another platform — the long-range K2 strike drone.
The video shows 10 K2 drones conducting a coordinated autonomous flight. Baykar captured the sequential takeoff of the aircraft before demonstrating them flying together as a synchronized swarm.

At the same time, the footage suggests the trial focused specifically on validating swarm capabilities rather than strike performance. No target engagement is shown, and at least one of the drones is seen returning to the runway, indicating the aircraft were likely flown in a reusable configuration.
Baykar first unveiled the K2 in mid-March 2026. On paper, the drone offers impressive specifications. With a maximum takeoff weight of 800 kg, it can reportedly deliver a 200-kg payload to targets more than 2,000 km away. The company also states that the drone is designed to operate in contested electronic warfare environments and features terrain-reference navigation, allowing it to continue its mission even under heavy GNSS disruption.
Despite these attractive performance figures, the K2 appears to reflect a different design philosophy than the one Ukraine has developed through years of combat experience with long-range strike drones.
The aircraft combines numerous sophisticated onboard systems with a reusable concept. Rather than serving solely as a one-way strike drone, the K2 is also intended to carry out reusable missions by delivering munitions and returning to base. While this significantly expands its operational flexibility, it could also make the platform substantially more expensive than simpler expendable long-range drones.

That, in turn, may undermine one of the key advantages expected from this class of weapon: affordability combined with mass production. Ukraine's experience has repeatedly demonstrated that overwhelming enemy air defenses often depends less on the capabilities of individual drones and more on the ability to deploy them in very large numbers.
The newly released footage has already sparked lively discussion across Turkish defense circles and social media, with many questioning how expensive the K2 will ultimately be and whether Baykar will be able to manufacture it in sufficiently large quantities. For long-range strike systems, production scale is often just as important as technical performance, as saturation remains one of the most effective ways to penetrate modern air defense networks.
Earlier, Defense Express reported on the Kizilelma unmanned fighter's first successful weapon release from its internal weapons bay, another milestone in Baykar's rapidly expanding unmanned aviation program.
