In addition to hundreds of thousands of 155mm artillery shells, Rheinmetall has supplied Ukraine with large quantities of other ammunition types essential for the troops

Since the start of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the German company Rheinmetall has supplied Ukraine with several million rounds of ammunition in various calibers. These include 155mm artillery shells, 35mm rounds for anti-aircraft guns, as well as ammunition for tanks and mortars.

The company disclosed this information in a recent update regarding its support for Ukraine. It also provided details on other supplies, such as the delivery and maintenance of armored vehicles and trucks.

Rheinmetall reported the delivery of hundreds of thousands of 155mm artillery shells. Hundreds of thousands of 35mm rounds for anti-aircraft-gun tanks 'Cheetah' were also transferred.

The German company notes that it is also supplying 35mm AHEAD programmable air-burst ammunition. These rounds are used in the new Skynex and Skyranger 35 air defense systems, which are already in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Defense Express notes that, given the large-scale supply of a wide range of munitions, Rheinmetall is indeed a key supplier to Ukraine's Defense Forces. In addition to supplying artillery and tank ammunition, the German group also provides rounds for Ukrainian anti-aircraft artillery systems, which are capable of intercepting russian drones and missiles quite effectively and cost-efficiently.

This cooperation is mutually beneficial. Notably, revenue for the German group's Division Weapon and Ammunition rose by 33% in the first half of 2026, driven primarily by the supply of medium-caliber and artillery ammunition to Ukraine, as well as ammunition deliveries to Hungary.

This year, the Defense Forces began shifting toward large-scale procurement of long-range 155mm artillery ammunition. It is worth noting that against a requirement for 1.2 million units, the German group stated a production capacity of just 100,000 per year and received an order from Ukraine earlier this year.

It is worth recalling that a contract with Rheinmetall for 100,000 mortar rounds was already known about in 2023, and it is quite likely that subsequent, unannounced orders followed.
