Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the ammunition depot in Kupiansk in August. Russians lost a great deal of ammunition right before the rapid counteroffensive in Kharkiv Region. It could have had a decisive influence on an ability of russians to withstand Ukrainian troops counteroffensive

A photo appeared on the network showing destroyed russian ammunition depot in Kupiansk (Kharkiv region). The Rocket Forces and Artillery of the Ukrainian Ground Forces demolished it in the end of August, 2022, while it was occupied.

Supposedly, the depot was located in the industrial zone of logistic facility or building materials factory in the suburbs of the city. Russians might have used building equipment for camouflage.

In the photo we can see 152 mm shells and rockets for the BM-30 Smerch and the BM-27 Uragan multiple rocket launchers. That means destroyed armoury had vital strategic importance for the russian Operational Command in Izium, which left their positions in the middle of September.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine had no ability to hit that ammunition depot from the M142 HIMARS or the M720 multiple rocket launchers from their positions in the end of August because of restrictions in maximum range of rockets for the systems that Ukrainian military had till that time. We can assume they used the Tochka-U tactical ballistic missile or the Vilkha MLRS. Perhaps this is why we didn’t know about the strike that had happened almost a month ago. The strike must have been a great tactical move before the counteroffensive in the east.

It was unclear why russian army didn’t use tactics of rolling barrage to stop the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But we do know now that they lost a great amount of ammunition right before the counteroffensive in Kharkiv region. That fact could have prevented occupiers to use their creeping artillery barrage tactics.

As Defense Express reported, Ukraine’s Armed Forces Destroy 120 russian Tanks in Kherson Region with German AT2 Mines.
