Thanks to requests from Ukrainian publications to the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (DIU), it is possible to answer the question of whether russian massive strikes with long-range weapons on Ukraine have led to a reduction in the russia's irreducible stock of missiles.
In particular, we can compare the data presented by the DIU on the stocks of russian missiles as of mid-April (i.e. before the start of targeted strikes with ballistic weapons on Ukrainian cities) with the data published by Ukrainian Defense Intelligence later.

According to the response to the New Voice of Ukraine request, as of mid-April 2026, the russians had the following number in stock:
- 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander short-range ballistic missile system (SRBM) – 200
- RM-48U ballistic missile for the S-300/400 SAM systems – 450
- 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missile – 230
- P-800 Onyx supersonic anti-ship cruise missile – 690
- Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile – 100
- Kh-101 air-launched cruise missile – 120
- Kalibr cruise missile – 460
The following data refers to mid-July, when the russian federation had been using a new tactic of long-range strikes with the massive use of ballistic missiles for a month and a half.
According to the response to another the New Voice of Ukraine request, as of mid-July 2026, the russians had the following quantities in stock:
- 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander SRBM – 100
- RM-48U ballistic missile for the S-300/400 SAM systems – 400
- 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missile – 120
- P-800 Onyx supersonic anti-ship cruise missile – 600
- Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile – 100
- Kh-101 air-launched cruise missile – 100
- Kalibr cruise missile – 450
That is, in May-June, the russians used 100 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander short-range ballistic missile system from their stocks, with an average monthly production rate of 55-65 units. Also they used 50 RM-48U ballistic missile, which are launched from the S-300 and S-400 SAM system launchers - these missiles are produced in the amount of 50 units per month.
At the same time, the stock of 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missile in May-June decreased almost by half – by 110 units, with a production rate of 3-5 per month. The stock of P-800 Onyx supersonic anti-ship cruise missile, with which russian terrorists also strike Ukrainian cities (their production rate is 7-10 units per month), decreased by another 90 units.
Thanks to the response to the request of the Ukrainska Pravda publication, current data as of August of this year became known.
According to the response of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence, as of mid-August 2026, russians had the following quantity in stock:
- 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander SRBM – 100
- RM-48U ballistic missile for the S-300/400 SAM systems – 400
- 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missile – 120
- P-800 Onyx supersonic anti-ship cruise missile – 600
- Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile – 50
- Kh-101 air-launched cruise missile – 100
- Kalibr cruise missile – 450
That is, in one calendar month, the russians even increased the stock of 9M723 ballistic missiles for the Iskander SRBM by 30 units. The number of available RM-48U ballistic missiles, as well as cruise and anti-ship missiles, remains at the same level.
But from the reserves over the past month, russia has spent 50 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile, of which only about 5 units can be produced monthly, but now, according to the DIU, their production has been stopped in favor of increasing the production of ballistic missiles.
Based on the above figures, we can conclude that the russians mainly carry out massive missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine primarily due to the current production of missiles. In total, we can talk about more than 100 ballistic and high-speed missiles including hypersonic per month, for the interception of which Ukraine needs missiles for the Patriot air defense system, and their production volume per month is just about 50-60 units.
